Stephen Watts Kearny Chapter, NSDAR
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Welcome to the Stephen Watts Kearny Chapter, NSDAR, website, New Mexico’s oldest DAR chapter organized in 1898. Come in, browse, and contact us if you’d like to discuss joining DAR!
WHO ARE WE?
The Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical women’s service and lineage organization, the largest in the world! DAR members trace their ancestors back to service in the American Revolution. Our chapter is in the Northeast District of the New Mexico State Organization, under the umbrella of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution.
DAR is a nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Membership is open to any woman 18 years or older regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot who aided in the American Revolution.
Patriot service is broadly defined and does not just mean military service or action at major battles. We are happy to help you explore your lineage and find documentation to see if you have a Patriot ancestor—or two, or three, or more!
In Santa Fe, our chapter is active with veterans, active-duty military, educational efforts about our Founding Fathers and founding documents, and historic preservation—so key in this area abounding in history! For more information, please email our chapter registrar.

In October of 2023, Stephen Watts Kearny Chapter, NSDAR, celebrated its 125th anniversary at the Museum Cafe in Santa Fe. A presentation on Mary Catharine Prince was given.
Mary Catharine Prince, wife of territorial judge and later governor L. Bradford Prince, was the organizing regent for the New Mexico Territory. She was a charter member of the chapter, the first to be organized in New Mexico—just eight years after the national society was organized in 1890 in Washington, D.C.
